Tahqiq Circle is an independent research and publishing project devoted to Islamic intellectual history.
Mission
Why Taḥqīq
Taḥqīq (تحقيق) belongs to the Arabic root ḥ-q-q (ح ق ق), from which comes ḥaqq (حق): truth, reality, right, or that which is firmly established. The same root gives al-Ḥaqq, “the Truth” or “the Real.” Taḥqīq carries the sense of examining a matter carefully, determining what can be established, and grounding one’s conclusions in evidence.
In textual scholarship, taḥqīq is the patient work of establishing the most reliable form of a text that the surviving evidence permits. Manuscripts and editions are compared, variations are weighed, possible errors are considered, and editorial choices are explained. This work cannot recover the past with perfect certainty. Sources may be incomplete, evidence may conflict, and some questions must remain unresolved.
Tahqiq Circle takes its name from this discipline, not as a claim to possess the truth or to place its work beyond correction. The name expresses an aspiration and a responsibility: to read carefully, distinguish what is known from what is probable, acknowledge uncertainty, and make judgments open to examination. “Circle” suggests a place where such work can be gathered, questioned, corrected, and continued.
The project’s first publication is an English translation of al-Bāqillānī’s al-Inṣāf, published as a 176-page paperback under the Tahqiq Circle Press imprint and available through Amazon.
Independence
Tahqiq Circle is not affiliated with a university, political organization, or religious institution. It is an independent project concerned with primary texts, responsible translation, and clear public presentation.
